The Nigerian subsidiary of Shell company on Friday stated that it was investigating attacks by the suddenly cropped militants on another of its pipeline in a restive state, in the Southern part of Nigeria.
“We are investigating reports of an attack on our pipeline in western Niger delta”, Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC, spokesman, Precious Okolobo told AFP, without explaining further.
As earlier reported, there has been another attack on another Shell pipeline and the Niger Delta Avengers, NDA, have claimed responsibility for the attack.
“At 3:00 am today (0200 GMT Friday), @NDAvengers blow up the SPDC Forcados 48″ export line”, the Avengers said on its Twitter account.
This attack was carried our particularly because of Shell’s non-adherence to warnings not to repair their pipeline which damaged in February.
The Avengers have also attacked facilities operated by U.S. energy firm, Chevron, Italy’s Eni and the State-run, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.
The violence has disrupted the budget of 2.2 million bpd to a low total of 1.4 million in one day.
The Nigerian military has deployed gunboats and fighter jets to the creeks and swamps of the Delta in search of the militants.
The Niger Delta Avengers are clamouring to profit from a fair sharing of Nigeria’s oil wealth for Niger Delta people. They have asked major oil corporations to leave the region if they were not going to adhere.
