Nigeria’s home-based Super Eagles on Monday defeated Ghana 2 – 0 to secure a semi-final spot at the ongoing West Africa Football Union, WAFU, Cup of Nations holding in Ghana.
One goal each from Anthony Okpotu and Peter Eneji Moses, after the first half handed Super Eagles the needed victory to keep Coach Salisu Yusuf’s team in the tournament.
The victory placed Nigeria second behind Ghana in the Group A standing.
The Super Eagles will now meet the winner in Group B in the semis. Niger Republic is currently top of Group B with four points, while Senegal is on three points. Niger will play Benin Republic while Senegal take on bottom placed Cote d’ Ivoire.
Speaking after the win against Ghana, Coach Yusuf said; “It’s football we are playing and we have our own target with the WAFU.
“Like I told you earlier, we want to use the WAFU to prepare the CHAN team. It’s football and it didn’t finish well against Guinea. We have a game to play so anything can happen.”
