Four rescheduled Match-day 7 matches were held on Wednesday in the Nigerian Professional Football League, NPFL, with all continental teams in action.
Champions, Rangers International defeated Lobi Stars 2 – 1 at the Cathedral, Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu to secure their second victory of the campaign.
The Flying Antelopes got to a flying start and took the lead after 21 minutes through Former U-23 star, Daniel Etor.
The lead lasted for only six minutes as the visitors equalized through Kingsley Eduwo. The striker missed from the spot but rushed to tap in the rebound to score his fourth goal of the campaign.
Booby Clement headed home a late minute winner for the Flying Antelopes as Lobi completed the final ten minutes of the fixture with a man down, after Chinedu James was sent off for a second bookable offence.
It was Lobi’s first defeat in six games and Rangers second win of the season, both at the Cathedral. With the win, Rangers moved four places to the 16th position on the league table.
Rangers’ next game is a Friday Night Football clash with MFM FC at the Soccer Temple, Agege Stadium, Lagos this Friday.
In Port-Harcourt, Rivers United were held to a 1 – 1 draw by Kano Pillars. Ghanaian Forward, Godbless Asamoah grabbed the opener for the hosts on the dot of half time while Amos Gyang equalized for Pillars eight minutes into the second half.
It was Pillars first point on the road this season and Gyang’s goal was their first away goal this season. The last time Pillars got a goal on the road was September 10 2016.
After their Confederations Cup Exit, FC Ifeanyi Ubah suffered another defeat on Wednesday following a 1 – 0 loss to Katsina United.
Destiny Ashadi scored the only goal for the Changi boys. It was Coach Bauldwin Bazuaye’s first win since he took over from Bala Nkiyu in January.
It was FC Ifeanyi Ubah’s sixth consecutive loss in away matches and the big spenders are now placed 19th with seven points from seven games.
Wikki Tourists put behind their recent outer from CAF Confederations cup to pip Shooting stars of Ibadan 1 – 0.
The win took the Giant Elephants to 14th place with 10 points while the Oluyole Warriors are now 18th placed with 8 points.
Seven goals were recorded on Wednesday in four matches, two less than the number recorded last weekend in six games.
Action continues this weekend as FC Ifeanyi Ubah hosts leaders, Plateau United while Remo Stars travels to Ibadan to meet Shooting stars in a south west derby clash.
