Enyimba FC of Aba returned to winning ways on Saturday after defeating Akwa United in a matchday 33 fixture of the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL).
The match which was played at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium in Port Harcourt saw the Peoples Elephant defeat the visiting Akwa United 2 – 1.
Star striker, Mfon Udoh who scored in Enyimba’s CAF Champions league victory over Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa scored one of the Aba giant’s goal while former Nigeria international, Ikechukwu Ibenegbu made it two. Hassan Babangida scored Akwa United’s consolation goal.
It was a productive week for Enyimba who earlier in the week on Tuesday got their first victory of the 2016 CAF Champions League group stage in the 3 – 1 win over Mamelodi Sundowns at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt.
Meanwhile in Ibadan, Shooting Stars Sports Club (3sc) pummeled visiting Kano Pillars 4 – 0.
With the victory, the Oluyole Warriors moved to 12th position on the league table with 44 points.
In Nnewi, NPFL big spenders, FC Ifeanyi Uba defeated table topper, Wikki Tourists of Bauchi 1 – 0.
The only goal that sealed the victory for FC Ifeanyi Uba was scored by Jimoh Oni in the 70th minute. Notwithstanding the defeat, Wikki Tourist remains top of the NPFL log.
Elsewhere in Port Harcout, Rivers United moved up to second position on the table after a comfortable 2 – 0 home win over Plateau United.
Former League Leader, Rangers International FC of Enugu, further slipped in their quest to win the league by dropping to fourth position after a disappointing 0-1 loss to Nassarawa United in Makurdi.
The match between MFM FC of Lagos and Abia Warriors of Umuahia will be played on Monday morning after the match was postponed because of heavy downpour.
