It was a busy weekend full of intrigues and actions as the 2016/2017 Nigerian Professional Football League entered match-day ten. On Sunday, seven games were held in which all the home teams secured wins.

In Nnewi, FC Ifeanyi Ubah bounced back from recent strings of poor results to defeat surprise Leaders, Plateau United 1 – 0. Prince Aggreh scored the decisive goal for the big spenders from the spot on the half hour mark.

It was Plateau United’s second defeat of the season but the Peace Boys maintained their top spot on the log despite the loss.

Old war horse, David Tyavkasse netted a late minute winner in Makurdi as Lobi Stars defeated Enyimba 2 – 1.

Enyimba took the lead early in the 18th minute from the spot before Lobi equalized also from the spot on the 54th minute through Anthony Okpotu.

When it looked like another home draw for the Panthers, veteran midfielder and former Enyimba star, David Tyavkasse who came on as a substitute netted the winner in the 92nd minute.

It was Lobi’s first time of conceding a goal at home this season while Enyimba’s poor form away continues with two points on the road in the current campaign.

El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri secured a comfortable 2 – 0 win against Nassarawa United in Maiduguri courtesy of goals from Bello Kofarmata and Samuel Mathias.

It was the Borno Armies’ 18th consecutive win in Maiduguri and Samuel Mathias’s goal was his fifth in the current campaign. The win took Ladan Bosso’s men to the second place on the log while Nasarawa slipped to 15th with 10 points.

Katsina United and Coach Bauldwin Bazuaye’s unbeaten run of five games came to an end in Kano as the Changi boys were pipped 1 – 0 by Kano Pillars.

Sunshine stars of Akure put behind their recent worries to defeat Rivers United 1 – 0. The solitary goal was scored by Ayo Saka in the 38th minute.

It ended a topsy-turvy week for the players of Sunshine Stars who held long week protests over their unpaid salaries, match bonuses and allowances. The Owena Waves climbed out of the relegation zone and moved to 11th with the win.
