Nine matches were held on Wednesday as the 2016 /2017 Nigerian Professional football league entered match day 11.
In Maiduguri, El-Kanemi Warriors made it 19 consecutive home wins as they trash Sunshine Stars 3 – 1. Samuel Mathias took his goals tally to five this campaign when he opened scoring for the Borno Armies in the 25th minute. Ayo Saka leveled scores for the visitors nine minutes later.
Bello Kofarmata converted a 65th minute penalty to put El-Kanemi in the lead and Mathias got his second of the game nine minutes from time to seal the win. The win took El-Kanemi to second on the log and now joint leaders with Plateau United on 21 points. Samuel Mathaias has now scored six goals in the current campaign.
Leaders, Plateau United missed an opportunity to extend their lead on the table as they were held to a goalless draw by Lobi Stars in a North Central derby clash. Despite the draw, the Peace boys remain on top of the table with 21 points but with a superior goal difference to El-Kanemi who are also on 21 points. It was the first-time Plateau will drop a point at home this season.
In Calabar, Enyimba FC were held to a goalless draw by Shooting Stars. It was Shooting Stars’ first NPFL away point against Enyimba since 1998 but the Oluyole Warriors have gone four matches without a win this season.
Champions, Rangers International secured a slim 1 – 0 win against ABS Ilorin. The win took the flying Antelopes to 13th place with 12 points. Rangers’ goal was scored by Daniel Etor in the 35th minutes.
Victor Mbaoma took his goal tally to six as Remo Stars were held to a 1 – 1 draw by Kano Pillars in Sagamu.
In other results, MFM FC conceded a last-minute goal to lose 2 – 1 at Katsina United while Abia Warriors defeated Niger Tornadoes 1 – 0 in Umuahia. FC Ifeanyi Ubah lost 2 – 0 in at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe. Wikki Tourists were held to a goaless draw by Rivers United. The pride of Rivers have now gone six games without a win in the NPFL this season and have won one of their last seven matches across all competitions.
On Thursday, Nasarawa United hosts Akwa United in the last fixture of match day 11.
