MFC FC moved closer to the top spot as they secured a 2 – 1 win over leaders, Plateau United in a classic NPFL match-day 14 tie held at the Soccer Temple, Agege Stadium on Sunday.
Star Striker, Stephen Odey grabbed a brace for the Olukoya boys as they moved to second place with a point behind the leaders.
Plateau United were without their manager, Keneddy Boboye and goalkeeper, Dele Ajiboye. Both were suspended by the League Management Company (LMC) for ‘unruly’ behaviour in a league match against Shooting Stars earlier in the month.
MFM took the lead in the first half stoppage time Odey. Peter Eneji leveled for Plateau United in the 62nd minute before Odey converted an 88th minute penalty to seal the win for the Olukoya Boys.
It was MFM FC’s first ever victory against Plateau United in the league and it took them to 25 points, a point adrift of leaders, Plateau United.
Stephen Odey continued his impressive form and now has 10 goals, more than any other player this season.
Shooting Stars’ winless run continued in Ibadan as they fired blank in a goalless draw against Abia Warriors. 3sc are now without a win in seven games – 6 draws and one loss. It is their longest winless run in the league since July 2011.
It was a five-goal thriller in Nnewi as FC Ifeanyi Ubah secured a nervy 3 – 2 win over El-Kanemi warriors.
Prince Aggreh grabbed a brace in the first half to put the home team ahead by 2 – 0. Veteran forward, Isiaka Olawale connected to a pass from Samuel Mathias to pull one back for the visitors in the 52nd minute. Few minutes later, Samuel Mathias also provided an assist for Ibrahim Babangida to level up at 2 – 2.
Substitute, Ifeanyi Onuigbo converted a late penalty to seal a win for the Anambra Warriors. The win took the big spenders to 12th place on 17 points.
At other centers, Kano Pillars continued their impressive form at home with a 2 – 0 win over Northern rivals, Gombe United. Enyimba conceded a late penalty that denied them an away win at Ilorin against ABS FC.
In Lokoja, Niger Tornadoes piped visiting Akwa United 1 – 0 while Wikki Tourists beat Katsina United 2 – 1 in Bauchi.
No away victory was recorded on Match-Day 14 but three draws were recorded with three players scoring brace each. Five home wins and 16 goals were recorded.
