MFM FC have returned to the top of the Nigerian Professional Football League table following an emphatic 3 – 0 win over fellow contenders, El-Kanemi Warriors at the Soccer Temple, Agege Stadium in Lagos on Sunday.

Austine Ogunye put the Olukoya boys in the lead twenty minutes into the game before skillful winger, Sikiru Olatubosun doubled the lead nine minutes later. It was Sikiru Olatubosun’s fifth league goal of the season.

NPFL top scorer, Stephen Odey made it 3 – 0 for the hosts on the dot of 45 minutes from the spot to seal the win.

It was Odey’s 14th strike of the season and the win took MFM to the top of the table with 33 points, a point above second placed Plateau United who were not in action last weekend.

With 19 goals between them, Stephen Odey (14) and Sikiru Olatubosun (5) have been involved in over 75 per cent of MFM FC’s total goals scored in the league this season.

At the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano, visitors, Akwa United stunned hosts, Kano Pillars with a 1 – 0 away win.

Forward, Christian Pyagbara scored the only goal of the game in the 19th minute. It was Kano Pillars first home defeat of the season and they became the fifth team to lose at home this season.

It was also the first away win since Feb 19 (Match-Day 9) when El-Kanemi Warriors defeated Abia Warriors in Umuahia.

However, an ugly incident marred the outcome of the match as some irate fans invaded the pitch and attacked match officials with some players of Akwa United.

It took the effort of the security personnel to restore law and order and protect officials of the visiting team from being injured.

At the Lekan Salami Sports Stadium in Ibadan, Shooting Stars edged out Niger Tornadoes 2 – 1.

Forward, Sunday Faleye put 3SC in the lead on the 36th minute when he dribbled past two defenders and slotted the ball into the bottom corner.

Wlfred Ammeh leveled up for the visitors in the 76th minutes but Emmanuel Asiri made sure the visitors returned empty handed as he scored Shooting Stars’ winning goal nine minutes from time.

Sunshine Stars of Akure pipped new boys Remo Stars 1 – 0 in a South West Derby Clash. The only goal of the game was scored in the 13th minute by Thomas Adeshina and assisted by Anthony Omaka.

At the Muhammodu Dikko Stadium in Katsina, Hosts, Katsina United rallied from a goal down to beat former Champions Enyimba 2 – 1.

Chinedu Ohanachom had given the Aba Elephants the lead in the 21st minute before goals from Obinna Eleje (45th) and Chinedu Udechukwu (84th) cancelled out the lead and gave the Changi boys the maximum points at home.

In other results, Emeka Ogbugh’s 33rd minute strike from the spot earned Rivers United the three maximum points against Abia Warriors.

It was Rivers United’s first goal against Abia Warriors in their last four meetings. Wikki Tourists defeated Gombe United 3 – 1 while ABS FC pipped Nasarawa United in Ilorin.

In Markurdi, Lobi Stars of Bauchi were held to a goalless draw by FC Ifeanyi Ubah. The draw took FC IfeanyiUbah’s unbeaten run to five games and the Federation Cup winners have climbed up to 8th position.
