League leaders, Plateau United trashed visitors, Akwa United 3 – 0 in a week 28 NPFL fixture held at the Rwang Pam Stadium, Jos, on Sunday to move five points clear on top of the log.

Emma James put the hosts in the lead in the 21st minute, converting a penalty kick awarded after Akwa United’s Ifeanyi Ifeanyi handled the ball inside the box. The hosts were reduced to 10 men four minutes later when Ubong Friday was sent off for dissident.

Substitute, Emeka Umeh doubled the lead in the 86th minute while Kabiru Umar compounded Akwa United’s woes with a third in the 90th minute.

It was Plateau United’s first victory in four games over the Promise Keepers; a victory which saw them extend their lead to five points (51 points total) ahead of second placed MFM FC on 46 points.

Defending Champions, Rangers International were held to a 1 – 1 draw by hard fighting Shooting Stars of Ibadan.

Super Eagles Team B star, Abu Azeez leveled up for Shooting stars ten minutes from time to cancel out a 29th minute strike by Godwin Aguda for the home team.

Despite the draw, the Oluyole Warriors, who are now unbeaten in 6 of their last 7 games, remain in the 19th position but could move out of the drop zone if they win next weekend.

In Ilorin, Sunshine Stars stunned hosts, ABS FC with a 2 – 4 win. After a barren first-half, Sikiru Amili socred the opener in the first minute of the second half. The lead was doubled in the 54th minute through a brilliant header from Ajibola Otegbeye.

Samuel Oyedeji scored from the spot in the 62nd minute to pull one back for the hosts. ABS FC almost levelled up three minutes later but Adesina Gata’s shot was denied by the woodwork.

Substitute, Thompson Ezekiel’s attempt in the 72nd minute was ruled offside before Abiodun Joseph eventually restored Sunshine’s two goal lead four minutes later.

With five minutes of regulation time, ABS FC’s Ebuka Anaekwe pulled one back for the hosts but their woes were further compounded seconds later when Thompson Ezekiel added a fourth for Sunshine stars. The win took the Owena Waves to 15th position with 36 points, two points above the drop zone.

The six-goal thriller was the first time in history that Sunshine Stars will score four away goals in the NPFL and also the first time ABS FC will concede more than three goals at home.

Sunshine’s win on Sunday took the number of away victories this season to 11 and the Akure based team is the 10th team to record such feat this season.

In other results, inform midfielder, Ikechukwu Ibenegbu, Chinonso Okonkwo and Stanley Dimgba grabbed a goal each as Enyimba walloped Niger Tornadoes 3 – 0 at the UJ Esuene Stadium in Calabar.

Wikki Tourists of Bauchi ended Kano Pillars unbeaten run of five matches with a 2 – 0 win in Bauchi while Katsina United survived a second half scare to edge out Lobi Stars 2 – 1 in Katsina.

In the North-Eastern derby, Gombe United defeated El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri 2 – 0. Sani Abbani gave the hosts the lead in the 68th minute while Sani Mohammed doubled the tally in the 91st minute.

On Tuesday, July 11, Remo Stars will welcome FC ifeanyi Ubah. The match initially scheduled to hold on Sunday was called off after several players of hosts, Remo Stars were affected by food poisoning.
