The Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu has described a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu as a stubborn man, saying his stubbornness has made him a powerful politician in the country.
The Lagos monarch, who stated this during the launching ceremony of a N50 billion Education Trust Fund in Ibadan, Oyo State, pointed out that such toughness enabled him weather attacks from the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, in the South West, against him.
Oba Akiolu stated further that the former Lagos State Governor’s sacrifices were responsible for the present strides recorded by his successors, including incumbent governor of the state, Akinwunmi Ambode.
“I am his (Tinubu) father and the father for all and I will continue to be their father. I don’t hide my feelings; nobody can take away Lagos from APC, at the federal level all hands need to be on deck,” he said.
Commenting on the reported feud between him, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji and Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, Oba Akiolu assured the crisis would soon be over.
Earlier, Governor Ajimobi remarked that the event was one of the various initiatives trawled by his administration to ensure proper funding of educational sector in the state.
Ajimobi, who stated that the country can no longer depend only on the government to fund the educational system, canvassed meaningful partnership between government and all stakeholders to ensure quality education in the country.
The Governor said: “The long tradition of government funding education is no longer feasible and outdated. Education cannot be left to government alone and we must make education the concern of everyone.
“To refuse to engage the public in public policy is to deny the state of a reasonable part of its resources beyond compare. The launching of ETf is to make education the concern of all of us and ensure that we take pragmatic efforts to fund it. The future of Nigeria will not be determined by states with oil or solid minerals but by those with cutting edge.
“The leading countries today are leading not because of their natural resources but because they have the best of brains. They have the mind and the right attitude. Since the resources that we have do not match the resources that we need, we must take more steps to get to where we desire. We must think out of the box. Oyo ETF is, therefore, a crucial step in restoring the legacy of the great Chief Obafemi Awolowo who laid example to follow.”
