Following the recent announcement by the Labour Congress on the dissatisfaction of workers with the present minimum wage, the Governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomole, has announced an increment in salary for workers in the state.
Though NLC demanded an increase to N56,000, the pay only rose to N25,000. This new increase has been assured to take immediate effect.
Oshiomole announced this during his address to workers during the 2016 May Day celebrations at the Samuel Ogbemidua Stadium in Benin City, the state capital. He also promised to pay all outstanding salaries to civil servants, particularly staffs of Egor Local Government Area within two weeks.
In their address, the union leaders in the state among other requests called on the Governor to cancel his decision to eliminate the state pensions board.
