President Muhammadu Buhari begins a 10-day vacation to London on Monday, his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mr. Femi Adesina, said in a statement issued in Abuja on Sunday.

Adesina stated that during the vacation, the president would see an Ear-Nose-and-Throat (ENT) specialist for the treatment of a persistent ear infection.

The overseas treatment came as a recommendation of the president’s personal physician and an E. N. T specialist in Abuja after they both examined and treated him. They recommended that the president undergo further evaluation of his condition merely as a precaution.

The president’s last official working visit to Lagos State was cancelled due to the same ear infection and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo had to represent his boss.

The president also had to cancel his visit to Ogoni, Rivers State, to flag off the cleaning up of the area which has suffered years of oil spills.

Criticism has since arisen from various quarters particularly on social media with some harbouring the belief that Nigerians are being lied to as regards the president’s health.
