In a statement by its national chairman, Samuel Abanulor, the The Association of Master Bakers and Caterers of the Nigeria (AMBCN) warned Nigerians to expect an increase in the price of bread soon.

Speaking at a news conference in Umuahia, Abanulor said that this was due to the rise of the cost of production as well as increased prices of raw materials such as wheat, sugar, flour and butter.

He said of his meeting with flour producers to lower costs:

“…They told us that there is nothing they can do because the Federal Government is not giving them foreign exchange and that they source it by themselves at the parallel market.”
