South Africans took to Twitter this week after it was discovered that news channel eNCA took one of their TV journalists, Nontobeko Sibisi, off the air for wearing a traditional headscarf called the doek.
This act has enraged many and sparked a massive debate about fashion and race in South Africa.
Wearing a headscarf is seen as a sign of respect in many African cultures. Now, has become so much more than that, it has also become a fashion statement.
In response to what was done to the TV journalist, South African women showed African pride and the beauty of their headwraps, using the hashtage #RespekTheDoek.
