Reports from Manchester City is that Nigerian forward, Kelechi Iheanacho has been instructed by the club to stay put at the club for pre-season training instead of honouring Nigeria’s invitation to the 35-man preliminary squad for the Rio Olympic Games.
Though the instruction is from the club, the promising 19 year old striker seems happy with the decision, according to Goal.
Even though he seems happy to stay at the club as instructed, Goal also reported that the youngster said he would have been just as pleased to represent Nigeria at the Olympics.
Iheanacho who had before now said he looks forward to working with new City manager, Pep Guadiola, spoke of his admiration for his work at Barcelona.
He said he remembers Barca’s successes as he was growing up in Imo, but never expected to get the chance to work alongside the brain behind the success.
“I watched Barcelona. He’s a great manager, they played really well, were a great team and won trophies,” he said.
Many Nigerians are looking forward to the two of them working together as they believe Guardiola would help improve his game.
