Real Madrid’s interest in Manchester United goalkeeper, David de Gea, has been rekindled in recent weeks thanks to the Spanish goalkeeper’s fine form for the Red Devils, keeping 12 clean sheets in all competitions.
The bad news for United, however, is that a deal may not happen still because of Cristiano Ronaldo’s association with the Madrid club.
It’s being claimed that Jorge Mendes who represents De Gea and Ronaldo is driving a hard bargain for any deal to be done. That’s because all is not well with the Ballon d’Or winner at the Bernabeu.
Mendes is reportedly trying to get a £10.5m salary for De Gea to leave Old Trafford for the Champions League winners.
Keylor Navas is expected to leave Real in the summer with Los Blancos wanting the United goalkeeper to replace him.
De Gea came close to joining Real Madrid in 2015 until a fax error scuppered the transfer at the last minute.
But the Manchester United man has remained on the radar of Florentino Perez.
Jose Mourinho is determined to keep hold of the Spaniard and described him as ‘the best goalkeeper in the world’ after his string of saves in his side’s 3-1 win over Arsenal two weeks ago.
De Gea will likely start tonight as United return to Premier League action against Bournemouth.
The Red Devils will look to bounce back after their Manchester derby defeat at the weekend.
Real Madrid are in action in about an hour when they take on Al Jazira in the semi-finals of the FIFA Club World Cup.
