Cristiano Ronaldo will give his testimony on July 31 in relation to allegations of tax evasion.
It means the Real Madrid superstar is almost certain to miss a pre-season friendly against bitter rivals Barcelona, which takes place in Miami two days before.
The four-time Ballon d’Or winner has been accused of defrauding the tax authorities of £12.9million.
Prosecutors alleged he knowingly used a business structure which hid income from his image rights between 2011 and 2014.
In total he faces four counts of tax fraud.
The opportunity to testify at the court in Pozuelo will give Ronaldo an opportunity to put the record straight having vigorously denied the allegations. He will be hoping to prove to the judge that the case need not go to court.
‘There is no tax evasion scheme,’ his management company said in a statement. ‘There has never been any hiding nor any intention to hide anything.’
So upset is Ronaldo at the allegations that he is ready to quit Real Madrid. He is understood to have told the club he wishes to leave this summer.
