Nigeria Super Eagles Defender, Leon Aderemi Balogun, is a major doubt for the Super Eagles’ World cup qualifier match against Zambia on October 9 in Ndola.
Balogun, 28, was substituted 10 minutes into FSV Mainz’s 2 – 3 home loss to Bayer 04 Leverkusen with a muscle strain on Saturday. Mainz has since declared that he’ll be missing at least the next two games for the club.
According to the club website, the Nigerian defender will miss Thursday’s Europa League fixture against Gabala FC, as well as the weekend’s Bundesliga game against VfL Wolfsburg.
With the injury, Balogun has become a major doubt for Nigeria’s clash against Zambia as it is not clear whether he will be considered fit enough before October 9.
Since making his debut against Mexico in 2014, Balogun has made eight appearances for the Super Eagles.
Super Eagles Coach, Gernot Rohr, could be compelled to name a replacement for the defender in the crunch tie against Zambia less than two weeks from now.
