Contrary to reports that journalist, Ahmad Salkida , was declared wanted by the Nigerian Army and was detained on arrival in Nigeria from Dubai , in a series of tweets posted late Wednesday night, Salkida clears the air and reveals that he was not actually arrested by security officials.

Salkida tweeted, “In response to the demand by Nigerian security authorities for me to clear my name, I flew into Abuja on Monday, September 5”.

“Contrary to reports, I was not arrested. I had very engaging conversations with officers. The atmosphere was mutually respectful.

“The discussions opened useful insights that are benefiting to both sides on the discussion table.”

Salkida thanked his family members, friends and colleagues, including activists ;ike Oby Ezekwesili, Aisha Yesufu and Japheth Omojuwa among others, “who were an inspiring spring to his tired steps”

He assured that his commitment and professional obligations would remain strong, undiminished and unshaken and hinted that he was working on his next exclusive report.

Salkida was believed to be in contact with some leaders of the terrorist group, Boko Haram, and was recently declared wanted by the Nigerian Army following the release of footage by the group showing some of the girls abducted from a Secondary School in Chibok, Borno State in 2014.

Quoting DSS sources, Sahara Reporters had reported that “Salkida was very `cooperative’ throughout the time he was in the detention custody of the DSS”. It also reported that Salkida had hinted it of his plans to return to Nigeria after the Nigerian Army had declared him wanted.
