South Africa’s President, Jacob Zuma has praised the Iranian revolution during a historic visit to the Middle Eastern country to boost trade and diplomatic ties between the two countries.

He said at a press conference in Tehran, the country’s capital, that the overthrow of a US-backed Shah inspired black South Africans to fight minority rule, shows that “emancipation is possible, whatever the odds”.

Zuma is the first South African Head of State to visit Iran since the international sanctions imposed on it were lifted.
