Atletico Madrid midfielder, Saul Niguez, has long been linked with a move to Manchester United, and now it looks like the Spaniard is ready to force the move.
Diego Simeone’s rock in the midfield, Saul Niguez, has played a crucial part for Atletico in recent seasons. But now the Spanish midfielder fancies a move to Manchester United, per The Metro.
Atletico have become synonymous with producing great players. Sergio Aguero, Falcao, Fernando Torres; the list goes on and on. And Saul is joining the ranks of great home-grown talent.
But just like everyone else, the day comes where they leave Atletico.
The Metro stated, “…the midfielder would be open to joining United if a deal can be agreed.”
Jose Mourinho could use the depth in midfield as well. Ander Herrera hasn’t played up to the standard he set last year and has been linked with a move away. Marouane Fellaini has also been linked with a £6m move to Besiktas.
United’s midfield depth could get that much smaller with these potential departures, but the arrival of Saul Niguez would be a great addition.
At just 22-years old he can already claim to be one of the best midfielders in Spain. He is a box to box midfieler. Saul can do it all.
And who could forget his incredible goal against Bayern in 2016?
He won’t come cheap, however. He recently signed a new contract with Atletico which saw his release clause raised to £135m. Manchester United could try and get him on the cheap side, or offer Herrera in a player + cash deal.
It’s a move that makes sense for the club. He’s an incredibly gifted player with loads of experience for a 22-year old.
Jose Mourinho’s moves for young midfielders failed this summer after chasing Tottenham’s Eric Dier and Dortmund’s Julian Weigl.
Saul is longing for the move to Old Trafford and his dream could be a plausible reality. This is a rumor with actual substance to it and Jose could finally get his midfielder he’s wanted.
