The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi II, in a ceremony urged Nigerian youths to get up and stop being job seekers but job creators if unemployment is to be reduced.
He gave this advice at the opening ceremony of the “Ifeprenuership Summit” going on in Osun State. All other speakers at the event agreed also that entrepreneurship was the only way out of the deep peril that is the joblessness of Nigerian youths.
Senator Babajide Omoworare, and the Ooni of Ife were some of the guest speakers.
Themed as an Ife Youths Economic Summit, the event was held at the Oba Okunade Sijaude Hall, Enuwa in Ile-Ife. All the speakers further agreed that capacity building and identifying the needs of the people and the environment were major factors of production needed to interplay with capital before one could have a successful business.
The event was assembled with the aim of empowering aspiring entrepreneurs on the necessary requirements for success in any business venture, how to enable and access funding. The Chief Executive Officer of the Bank Of Industry, Mr. Waheed Olagunju, spoke on the theme “Building Entrepreneurship Competency and Self-Reliance Among Ife Youths,” telling the youths that there are many other things required to start a business asides capital. He said capacity building and the knowledge of needs of people are also needed to sustain any type of business.
Other Speakers, Senator Babajide Omoworare, and Felix Faniran, also said there was the need for the youths to stop placing the blame for unemployment on the government and rather, seek other ways of becoming employers of labour.
The organizers of the summit believe that the two-week programme, when completed by the participants, would make them better equipped to start businesses of their own, generate more jobs and reduce the number of youths on the street job-seeking.
