Following the sighting of the moon that significantly marks the commencement of the Ramadan season, tomorrow has been declared the first day of Ramadan for Muslims across the country.

The announcement was made by the supreme leader of Muslims in Nigeria, the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar.

“Tomorrow Monday 6th June, 2016 is 1st Ramadan, 1437 after Hijrah in the Islamic Calendar year.

“Today 29th day of Sha’aban, 1437 A.H, is equivalent to 5th June, 2016, therefore marks the end of Sha’aban.

“However, tomorrow June, 6, 2016 is equivalent to 1st Ramadan, 1437 A.H.”

The Sultan urged all Islam faithful to abide by the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) in charity and good deed. He also implored Umma to supplicate for peace, unity and success at all levels for the nation, Nigeria.
