I did not know much about the late British singer-songwriter, George Michael. In fact, I did not know anything about him until the news of his death broke on Christmas day and I saw that many people were saddened to hear that he had passed away.

So I curiously did a quick Google search to find out who he was and discovered that he was a member of a British duo called, Wham! He had an impossible to pronounce birth name, Georgios Kyriacos Panayiotou, and openly identified as gay in 1998.

But perhaps the most striking thing I found out about Michael is not just his hit collabo song with Mary J. Blige, but the fact that he wrote, produced and performed an early 1980’s hit Christmas song titled, Last Christmas.

It’s ironical then – or perhaps more eerie than ironical – that this “Last Christmas” crooner’s last day on earth was on Christmas day.

Also, additionally eerie is the fact that the lyrics, “Last Christmas, I gave you my heart”.
