Every shoe lover/ addict who has been following fashion month closely will tell you that for the entire duration, they have been put on what could be described as “shoe-motional” rollercoaster filled with euphoric shoegasms and depressing shoe faux pas enough to make them go cold turkey and take up a new addiction. Crack cocaine or bags maybe? One minute Saint Laurent is leaving us breathless with those killer YSL heels the next minute Christopher Kane hits us with the metaphorical rock of misery that is his bejewelled crocs.
All jokes aside, the rise in ugly shoes as seen in Spring/Summer ’17 collections and runways from New York all the way to Paris has made us question everything we believe in as far as fashion is concerned, I mean these shoes will make a fashionably unfashionable entry to mainstream and high street fashion in the name of trends. Has ugly become the new fashionable? Or are these designers too focused on selling a “quirky, IDGAF, my shoe’s cooler than yours” attitude than they are about practicality and visual appeal? And if so, is beauty still in the eyes of the beholder?
While some podiatrists will cheer for joy defending these ugly shoes as comfortable and some trend lovers as uber stylish, I’d say one thing, wait until you see our top ugly ss17 shoes from fashion month.
