A community in Bayelsa state, Nigeria, Nembe, has recorded a third attack on pipelines in the area – this time on a major pipeline.

This is coming after this weeks’s attacks on Chevron’s Escravos pipeline and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation pipeline.

These incidents have followed each other in the space of 24 hours. The attacks have been claimed by the militant group that refers to itself as the Niger Delta Avengers, NDA.

The Nembe pipeline is said to carry the bonny light crude exported by Royal Dutch Shell.

The company is yet to make any official statement on the incident though they’ve declared force majeure on Bonny Light loadings after a previous attack on the Nembe creek trunk pipeline.

Despite the attacks, some exports had continued, though delays were caused by repair work.

The new militant group have been announcing their activities beforehand and the Nembe attack came after a tweet on the 28th of May 2016, stating that ‘Something big is coming’.

Local sources confirmed that the attack happened at about 2 a.m. today.
