21 April 2016
It was about this period of the year in 2012. It was during the Rhythm 93.7 Morning drive show that Toke Makinwa co-anchored that she said it. Her firm opinion – “I don’t think Linda Ikeji is a role model. She’s a gossiper. She sells gossip.” She even goes on the appeal to the younger generation not to take Linda Ikeji serious. This was when the feud began between the two. One a popular and controversial blogger, the other, also a popular and controversial On air personality A feud that splits the world into Linda Ikeji’s fans and Toke Makinwa Fans.
History repeats itself, they say. It is the 20th of April, 2016, four years after. Four years that saw battles and shade throwing between the two women. Linda Ikeji has just reconciled with Wizkid, or so it seems. We recall the social media war between Wizkid and Linda, and the long article Linda wrote about Wizkid and why she reported the threat to the police commissioner. The article had a domestic violence angle – some have referred to this as seeking sympathy from the public, especially women. This is what she wrote.
You see, violence against women and threat of violence against women is not okay. Threatening harm to someone in a public space is a criminal act in every country of the world, including Nigeria. I bet some of you didn’t know that, yeah? You cannot publicly threaten someone with harm. You will only get away with it if your victim doesn’t report to the authorities. If they do, you will have a case with the police and I promise you, the police take these things seriously.
I reported this case to the authorities because I want our young men to know this is not okay. You should not raise your hands on a woman. You shouldn’t even threaten to raise your hands on a woman. Wizkid wrote that he would send his 16 year old cousin to beat the shit out of me. Letting Wizkid get away with it is basically telling our young men that this is okay…and it’s not!
This morning, Toke Makinwa took to Instagram to maybe motivate her fans, who knows? Noble intentions or not, everyone is calling it shade throwing, though she mentions no name. Her fans are saying the clear cut message is for Linda with reference to her war with Wizkid. She uploads a picture on instagram which quotes American best-selling author and speaker, Mandy Hale, “Strong women don’t play victim or make themselves look pitiful. They stand and they deal,” then she goes on to talk about God and standing tall.
This is what she writes: Nothing stays the same. Seasons change, the storm will pass, the rain will stop and the sun will shine again. If you are in the middle of the storm I pray his grace is more then enough to weather it all. You will get thru it. You will be blessed thru it. Even when it’s hard to pray just cry to God, if you can’t find your voice just sit in his presence and let him know that not only is he your last option, he is your only hope. He is alive and that’s enough assurance. #unbreakable #Standingthruitall
We wonder if she is shading especially Linda Ikeji, or just motivating her fans.
