The mother of late rap legend, Tupac Shakur died yesterday, May 2nd at the age of 69.
The late rapper’s mother, Afeni Shakur Davis, was the subject of one of his most iconic songs, Dear Mama. The popular rap song detailed the struggles he had as a child and the love and respect he had for his mother.
It has been reported that she suffered a possible cardiac arrest. She was taken to a local hospital where she died just before 10:30 p.m.
Afeni Shakur was born Alice Faye Williams. However, she changed her name when she moved to New York City and joined the Black Panther movement. She and other party members were arrested in 1969 and charged with conspiracy to bomb multiple, busy city landmarks.
It was after she was acquitted in May 1971 that she gave birth to Tupac, a month later. She has been described by her lawyer as an advocate and activist.
