On Sunday, a U.S. army reserve officer from the district of Columba, 26 years old Deshauna Barber won the Miss USA crown.
She was crowned winner from among 51 other beautiful women who competed for the title. She will now go on to compete in the Miss Universe contest later this year.
The new Miss USA works as an IT analyst for the U.S. Department of Commerce and is a logistics commander for the 988th Quartermaster Detachment Unit at Fort Meade, Maryland, according to her Miss USA profile.
When asked about women in combat, Deshauna said: “As a woman in the United States Army, I think we are just as tough as men. As a commander of my unit, I’m powerful, I am dedicated.”
She added that Gender does not limit the United States Army.
The Miss USA beauty pageant has been held annually since 1952 to select the American entrant in the Miss Universe pageant. The Miss Universe Organisation operates both pageants, as well as Miss Teen USA.
