Nigerian design label Wanger Ayu has unveiled its 2017 collection called “Epoch”. The label described the collection as a refreshing ode to the past, the present and the future.

According to a rep for the label, the Epoch collection is a “retro-futuristic celebration of an era; drawing inspiration from current economic shifts, in which we find individuals and society reminiscing and desiring past glories with the hope for the future and all the possibilities it holds”.

Trying to find a balance between the past and the future is a tricky road to go on, but the Wanger Ayu brand’s attempt on the subject was pretty commendable: A sleeveless gingham top with a ruffled hem (past) was worn with pants (future); a purple satin one-shouldered sheath (future) came with an attached ruffled sleeve and a ruffle strand (past) that decorated the right side of the dress from waist to hem; and an embellished white a-line mini dress (past) was designed with sleeves exaggerated in length with slits up to the elbows (future) to reveal arms.

If there’s one criticism to be made, it is that the finishing and tailoring of the clothes could have been better.

All in all though, it was a pretty solid effort from the relatively new designer.
