On Saturday, Angelina Jolie made her first public appearance since her high-profile split with Brad Pitt in September, at the premiere of her latest film, First They Killed My Father, in Siem Reap, Cambodia.

A day later, she gave her first interview with BBC’s World News to discuss her film, based on the war time experiences of her friend and former refugee, Cambodian Loung Un, and briefly touched upon her split from the father of her six children, since the pair split last September.

‘We are a family and we will always be a family, and we will get through this time and hopefully be a stronger family for it,’ she told the BBC.

When asked about how she was coping with the break, the 41-year-old admitted the family was going ‘through a difficult time’, but she hopes they will manage to get through it together.

‘I am coping with finding a way through to make sure that this somehow makes us stronger and closer,’ she explains.
