Relatively new Nigerian brand, Kareema Mak, has resurfaced with a new collection called #KMTheLabel.
To quote the inspiration for the collection sent by the press team, “A label is a piece of fabric representing ownership. At Kareema Mak, we believe The Label is just as important as the woman wearing it. The Kareema Mak Woman is sophisticated, edgy and full of grace. She is confident and her style speaks with ultimate volume. That is why we believe these women only want to be dressed accordingly.”
Inspiration shenanigans aside, this was a handful of well tailored basics: a little black dress, a jumpsuit, a maxi, work-ready separates, amongst others.
Judging from the pictures, the ‘sophisticated’ and ‘full of grace’ terms used to describe the clothes are spot on, except for ‘edgy’. These clothes are far from edgy, but that’s a good thing.
Romanticism is what comes to mind after sighting the asymmetric ruffle that decorates the yoke of an aubergine-colored sheath dress. Ditto the white lace off-shouldered top tucked into a pencil skirt of the same fabric with a slit.
All in all, these are simple wearable clothes that would retail very easily, but a little more than 10 looks would have made for a nicer range.
